Department of Justice and Constitutional Development releases document entitled: A Framework for the transformation of the State Legal Service

The document released by the national Department of Justice and Constitutional Development entitled "A Framework for the transformation of the State Legal Service" (click on the link to download) aims to address the requirement by the government of South Africa for efficient, co-ordinated legal services, to promote the values and obligations arising from the Constitution.

 

Cabinet approved certain principles on 23 November 2011 to underpin the transformation (and reorganisation) of state legal services. These principles formed the basis of this Framework.

 

If implemented, there would be far-reaching consequences, especially for the provincial and local spheres of government and all legal personnel serving the executive branch of government.

 

Any person wishing to comment on the document, is invited to submit written comments to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development on or before 31 January 2013.
